V9 Academy 2018 was launched at the King Power Stadium on Thursday 25th January. The V9 team were joined by V9 graduate Alex Penny, now plying his trade in League One for Peterborough United. Alex and Jamie meet each other in the FA Cup 4th Round on Saturday 26th June when Leicester travel to Peterborough’s ABAX Stadium. Journalists from around the country were at the launch to cover the fantastic announcement of V9’s second season. Here are some of the images from the press conference.
V9 are delighted to announce the recruitment of the full time professional coaches who will oversee the 5 day programme from 5th June to 9th June at the Etihad complex. Alan Stubbs and John Doolan are a management team who experienced great success at Hibernian FC in Scotland, winning the 2016 Scottish Cup. Chris Ramsey and Simon Ireland are another duo with impressive footballing pedigree. Chris has coached at the highest level including a stint as manager of QPR and was appointed Technical Director in 2016 whilst Simon is currently Head of Coaching and Coach Education at Loftus Road. Former Scotland International Robbie Stockade is developing an excellent reputation at Sunderland where he is the First Team coach and Travis Binnion is Head of Coaching and Academy Manager at Sheffield United where he has been pivotal in the progress of their successful under 21 and under 18 teams. Finally the vastly experienced David Coles, once goalkeeping coach at Southampton and now at Bristol City will be putting the three V9 goalkeepers through their paces. As well as these professional coaches V9 will also be recruiting four coaches from non-league to ensure opportunities for those involved in non-league does not just stop at the players.
We have confirmed with Manchester City FC that V9 will run from Monday 5th June – Friday 9th June with players and coaches arriving on the evening of Sunday 4th June. The V9 team wanted to give as much notice as possible to players and staff to allow them to make necessary childcare, work and holiday arrangements.
Thank you for applying to the V9 Academy.
Due to the prolific interest in the V9 Academy we have had to adjust our processes and timescales accordingly. If your application is successful a member of the V9 team will contact you.
Whilst we endeavour to do this as soon as possible, with so many applications and consequently so many players to watch, this can take time. Every application will be given serious consideration. However, we are unable to contact unsuccessful candidates. Please remember that only players playing first team football in steps 5 – 9 (which is now steps 1 – 5 in the new FA structure) in the English pyramid system will be considered this year.
Academy updates will be available on the V9 website and social media platforms. Once all 42 successful players are announced we will not accept any further applications.
As this is such a competitive process please do not feel too disheartened if your 2017 application is unsuccessful and keep an eye out for opportunities to apply for a place on our 2018 Academy.
